Off to Omaha

I expected to rant for several entries about how George W ruined the country, Why, I was just get warmed up. I was going to go on about his administration forgot to plan for the aftermath of a war won in 3days, how him and Cheney and Rummy almost singlehandledly demolished US relations with most other countries in the world, how George W is personally responsible for the housing market melt down and high gas prices. I wanted to rant on about how eight years of "do nothing" had left this country more insecure from attack and economic failure than anything the terrorists had done. I wanted to bitch about how the Constitution had suffered such a frontal attack since Nixon.
But then my dog died and I lost steam. Mary and I sat on the back porch, drank wine, and cried for three nights running.
Add to that that I'm four chapters deep into a new novel, have been requested to submit stories to several print anthologies, and just completed revisions on two stories that I'm submitting to the fall contests. Plus, I got hired to write new coursework for a new client. Retirement Planning--yee hah.
Then, there's this upcoming weekend. Mary and Reilly and I are flying to KC, then driving to Omaha. We'll meet my daughter Ashley's new fiance--that's right, they're engaged--and visit with my daughter Jessica and my two grandchildren. We also plan to take Reilly to the Harry Truman Presidential Library and I hope to eat a big steak. A big, bloody steak.
Back on Monday.

Enjoy the trip. I'm glad to hear that Ashley is doing well, too. Great news.
The Truman library is wonderful. Leave plenty of time. They have a well-done exhibit about the end of WW2, as you'd expect. (Though Reilly won't relate to that.) They have a great reproduction of the Oval Office, his cars, and other interesting stuff. It is quite impressive.
We are heading up to Massachusetts, to my old home there. We'll go to the beach, eat some fried clams, and see the sights. Might take Kate to see Salem, where the witch trials were held. Depends upon time. Lots of plans, not enough days. Then we'll take the ferry boat across Long Island Sound, to the end of Long Island. Booked an Inn right on the water. Finally, we'll visit my dad's grave, then head for home.
Happy travels, go safe, and enjoy seeing the kids and grandkids. And the steak.
The sad part is the miserable legacy that he is leaving behind. Which he will surely blame on the Democrats...
